Laurence “Steve” O’Reilly, of Norwell, passed away on December 10, 2022 at the age of 76. He was the son of the late Mildred (Prescott) and H. Gordon O’Reilly of Hingham and Centerville.

Steve was born and lived in Boston prior to moving to Hingham. Steve met his wife Anne at Peabody Construction and they were married on July 12, 1974. The two settled in Norwell where they would raise their family.
Steve was an outstanding athlete excelling in track and field, tennis and hockey. He was the leading scorer as an All-Star center at Hingham High School. After high school Steve played semi-professional hockey for the Braintree Hawks in the New England Hockey League. Most notably his team traveled to Europe to play against European Olympic teams.

Steve worked a lengthy career as a safety officer for Peabody Construction for over 30 years. He spent the remainder of his career proudly working for Callahan Construction as a Safety Officer. He enjoyed his work and valued the friendships he made while working for both companies.

After his hockey career, Steve enjoyed watching hockey on TV and following the Bruins. He learned how to fly fish and enjoyed vacations with his family particularly to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine in the summertime. Steve had a quiet, laid back personality but had a great sense of humor. He would do anything to help anyone especially his whole family.

Steve was the loving husband of Anne E. O’Reilly. Father of Meghan Soares and her husband Justin of Norwell and Michael O’Reilly of Boston. Grandfather of Madelyn Soares. Brother of H. Gordon O’Reilly and his wife Priscilla of Norwell, Nancy Flanagan and her husband Robert of Virginia, and Rosemary McBride and husband Richard of Hingham. Steve is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to to Compassionate Care ALS, in honor of his son-in-law, Justin Soares. https://ccals.org/donate/
