Joan M. Scanlon, 92, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Scanlon and a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Grady) Carr.
Joan had formerly worked at PBS Channel 36 in Providence for 10 years during the 1980’s, a job that she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved the beach, especially Second Beach in Newport, Narragansett Pier, and Naples Pier where she wintered since 1985.
She was beloved mother of Mary Ann Fisher (George), Holly Galipeau (the late, Daniel), Erin M. Scanlon (Hon. Michael J. Feeney), the late Robert E. Scanlon Jr., and Nancy J. Poon. She also leaves her son-in-law, Alan Poon. She was the devoted grandmother of Jeremiah R. Ryan, Siobhan O. Ryan-Roy, Connor D. Fisher, Patrick M. Sweeney, III, Jesse Poon, Delaney Poon, and Kelsey S. Galipeau-Dixon. She also leaves 7 great grandchildren and is predeceased by her sisters, Mary Wall and Theresa Flinn.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 8:45 a.m. from the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett. Interment will be private. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 4 – 7 p.m.
