A Celtic Prayer

May the blessing of light be on you – light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire
so that a stranger may come and warm himself at it, and also a friend.
May light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house,
bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.
May the blessing of the rain be on you, the soft and gentle rain.
May it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean
and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines…
and sometimes a star.
May the blessing of the earth be on you,
soft under your feet as you pass along the roads,
soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day;
And may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly;
up and off on its way to God.
Amen

Albert Einstein once suggested that “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” As a course developer and instructor in a variety of programs and advisor for certificates and credentials across the board at UC San Diego Extension, Theresa Corbett was the living embodiment of this precept. In her work with the University of California, both in Los Angeles and in San Diego, Theresa guided her charges adeptly, demonstrating that education is more calling than career and more passion than profession. Theresa’s passing leaves the Education Department with a rather pronounced emotional, creative and intellectual void. However, we rest assured that our faculty is that much better for having the opportunity to collaborate with a teacher of the highest caliber. Theresa will be missed, but her legacy lives on in an exponential way, having ignited the creative spirit within hundreds (if not thousands) of teachers and students throughout her postsecondary career.

A Note from The Hill

Dear FSHA Alumnae,

It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the death of a former teacher and colleague of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Theresa Corbett. Theresa was on the faculty from 1979-80 through 1988-89. During her time here she was a member of the English Department (English (I and III), Social Studies Department (U.S. History), teacher in the English as a Second Language Department as well as chairperson, coordinator of the Gifted Department and teacher of Honors Seminar I and II. Theresa was also the AP Department chairperson and testing coordinator.  She served yearly as a moderator in areas where she was needed, including both class and club.

All of us who remember Theresa knew her as a dedicated, inspiring teacher who contributed so much to each class she taught. She always had an incredible energy  and enthusiasm for all she touched.  Her students remember her fondly.

A Memorial Mass for Theresa will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Simi Valley (1305 Royal Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065) followed by a final ceremony at Assumption Cemetery, which is located very near the church.  All are welcome.

Sincerely,

Sister Katherine Jean ’59
