Obituary: Judith L. (Prescott) Morris

Published December 26, 2012

RADFORD — Judith L. (Prescott) Morris, 72, died, Sunday, December 23, 2012 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a short battle with ALS. Her loving and devoted family was by her side during her stay at the Hospice House. Born in Haverhill on April 13, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Melville and Helen (Heath) Prescott. She resided in Groveland for many years and has lived in Bradford for the past three decades. Judy was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1958.

After raising her family, she returned to work as a Quality Control Manager at the Aircraft Engine Group Division of General Electric in Lynn until her retirement in 2000.

Shortly after her retirement, she endured the unexpected death of her thirty-seven year old daughter who had three very young children. Without hesitation she became the full-time guardian and caregiver of her grandchildren for the past twelve years and right up until her death. Judy can be best described as a truly unselfish, nurturing and committed mother and grandmother. She never thought twice about taking her three grandchildren into her home and raising them as if they were her own. She knew what needed to be done and embraced the opportunity to make a loving home for them.

In her spare time, she enjoyed doing needlework and was an avid reader. She also cherished the times and memories of the trips that she took with her sister, Elfie and her brother-in-law, Eddie, cousin, Linda and her husband, Augie and her dear friend, Janice. Judy was forever grateful for all the support that she received while she was raising her grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Kelly A. Beaton and her husband, William of Groveland; a son, John Morris of West Newbury; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Katherine, Billy, Katie, William, Jr., Jimmy and Danny; a brother, Steven Prescott and his wife, Linda of Haverhill; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Finnigan and Gerry Tibbetts both of Groveland; five nieces and nephews, Patrick and Shawn Finnigan and Jason, Jennifer and Justin Prescott. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Amy Morris; two sisters, Mary Jane Tibbetts and Elfie Finnigan.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in the Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main St., Bradford at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem St., Bradford from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend.
