Obituary: Joseph Fred Chabot

CHABOT, Joseph, DVM Evening has come. Joseph Fred Chabot, DVM, formerly of Lexington, died peacefully at home, in Grafton, on Tuesday, January 10, of complications from Primary Lateral Sclerosis. He was 77.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Lynch) Chabot for 55 years and loving father of Mary Elizabeth Flaherty and her husband Patrick Flaherty of Flower Mound, TX and Joseph F., Jr and his wife Diana Bernsee Chabot of Waltham. He was predeceased by his son John Austin. He was the cherished grandfather (“Papa”) of Justin, Timothy, Sabra, and Austin. Joe was born and raised in Whitinsville, MA. He earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Oklahoma State University in 1963 and shortly after established a veterinary practice in Lexington. In retirement he taught for many years at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, one of the colleges at Tufts University, and developed a deep love and appreciation of elephants. One of Joe’s greatest pleasures was playing golf.

Dr. Chabot’s Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 30, at 11AM, in St. Patrick’s Church, Cross St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours: Sunday, January 29, 2-4PM, at the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St, WHITINSVILLE.
