Hazel (Proal) Hasseltine, 64 of Centerville, MA, died March 19, 2013, surrounded by her family, from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She was the wife of David Hasseltine to whom she was married 43 years.
Born on March 23, 1948, she graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School and attended Worcester Industrial Technical Institute, both in Worcester, MA. For fifteen years she worked for the US Postal Service in Millbrook, NY. She retired with her husband to Cape Cod and was an active member of the Centerville community.
She was an avid golfer and President of the Tuesday Ladies’ League at Old Barnstable Fairgrounds G.C. where she scored a hole in one on the 17th hole in 2010. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church and enjoyed bowling, knitting, clamming, and pilates. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons David M. Hasseltine and his wife Caryn of New Fairfield, CT, and James D. Hasseltine and his wife Lisa, of Highland, NY; her daughter: Kristen L. Kane and her husband David of Salt Point, NY; her five grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Ryan, Timothy and Brandon; her sister, Judith M. Lucas and her husband William of Marstons Mills, MA; her brother, Russell S. Proal and his wife Carol of Westborough, MA; and many nieces & nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the John Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. (Route 28), Marstons Mills, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23rd at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St., Centerville, MA, followed by burial at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, MA.
