Obituary: Judith Brown-Cardinal

Judith “Downtown Judy Brown” Christine Brown Cardinal, age 51, of Buzzards Bay, died on March 29, 2015 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham following a courageous battle with ALS disease. She was the devoted wife of Richard Lee Cardinal, Jr of Buzzards Bay, MA. Born in Plymouth, MA on May 5, 1963, Judy was the beloved daughter of Charles and Virginia (Hakkila) Brown of Plymouth. She was educated in Plymouth and was a graduate of Plymouth Carver Regional High School, Class of 1981. She then continued her education by graduating from U Mass Boston in 1990 receiving her bachelor’s degree while achieving her degree as a registered nurse. She had dedicated over 25 years to nursing while working at the Jordan Hospital. She embraced her work with her heart as she helped train and educate numerous nurses and volunteers throughout the years. Judy had many of those lives she touched give back to her in her time of need while dealing with her ALS. She enjoyed cruising and traveling to Bermuda, Florida, and most recently Hawaii. She was a member of the MA Nurses Assn and loved watching movies with her husband Rick. She was recently honored by having the ALS ice bucket challenge done by many of her former colleagues at the hospital.

Besides leaving her husband and parents, Judy was the loving mother of Richard Charles Cardinal, Ariana Elizabeth Cardinal, and Amanda Mary Cardinal all of Buzzards Bay and was step mother to Aimee Lee Cardinal of Lowell, Michigan. She was the beloved sister of James Brown and his wife Debbie of Norwood, and cherished grandmother of Jocelyn, Jenessa and Jaylin. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth. The funeral Service will be on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Christ Church Episcopal, 149 Court St., Plymouth. Interment will be in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth.
