Patricia Ann Sweeney, lovingly known as Patty, passed away peacefully at her home in the comforting presence of her family and friends, on August 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on June 27, 1959, in Boston, MA, Patty was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas Sweeney and Margaret Carroll Sweeney.
A graduate of Cambridge Latin High School, Patty pursued her passion for helping others by earning an associate’s degree from Forsyth Dental Hygiene School and an associate’s degree in science from Northern University. Professionally and personally, she was known for her gentle touch and kind nature, qualities that endeared to her many throughout her life.
Patty was happily married to Jennifer Nelson, with whom she shared a life full of love and adventure. Together, they created a warm home where family and friends were always welcome. Patty’s sisters, Carol Costello and her husband, John, and Lisa Sweeney, and her brothers, David Sweeney, Robert Sweeney, and Francis Sweeney and his partner Chuck Ortleb, and Jen’s brother, John Milner, hold dear to them the countless memories they shared with her. Her boundless love extended to her twelve cherished nieces and nephews and her five delightful grand-nieces and nephews as well as too many friends considered family to list. Patty’s heart was especially open to children, and she was adored by them for her playful spirit and nurturing presence.
Preceding her in passing were her beloved parents and her dear niece, Bridget Sweeney, whom she held close in her heart. Patty’s zest for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She found joy in travel and cherished the tranquility of the beaches of Provincetown and Aruba, which she considered her happy place. A fervent Red Sox and Patriots fan, she relished game days and shared her enthusiasm with everyone around her. Her love for a bit of fun was evident in her fondness for scratch tickets and the occasional outing to the casino. Her character was marked by an unfailing kindness and a loving nature. Patty was a special person who never spoke ill of others, a testament to her generous spirit and the joy she found in uplifting those around her. Her warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Though she has left this world, Patty’s legacy of love, kindness, and joy will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will forever be a guiding light in the lives of her family and friends.
A funeral service for Patty will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Friday, September 11th at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 10th from 4 to 7pm.
