It
has been five years since my Aunt Lisa was diagnosed
with ALS. She was always extremely active – camping,
biking, hiking and running. So, in her honor, I
will be running the Vermont City Marathon this
coming Memorial Weekend, May 24th, (My first attempt
at 26 miles!) to raise money and awareness for
ALS as well as an amazing organization, Compassionate
Care ALS (CCALS).
While I realize that research is an
extremely important
part in finding the cause and a cure for ALS, the
daily challenges and needs that my Aunt, her
caregivers and our family face are overwhelming
and many times seem impossible to overcome. CCALS’ "hands
on" approach has been a lifesaver for us.
Ron Hoffman, Director and Founder, has become
an integral person in our lives. He is an
avid listener, has a compassion that I have not
seen before, and an understanding that all patients
are not alike. He understands that overcoming
even the simplest challenges can make a world
of difference. He has worked with hundreds
of ALS families across the area and has
the amazing ability to relate his experience
and knowledge thru the "journeys" that
he has taken with each and every patient,
their loved ones and their caregivers.
Raising
funds will allow CCALS to continue to provide
direct services and durable goods to ALS patients,
their families and their caregivers. Please give
generously and assist us in making a difference
in the lives of those affected by ALS.
